Adult Protective Services (APS) investigates suspicions of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation for those aged 60 and over or between the ages of 18-59 with an alleged mental or physical incapacity. Services are offered, if necessary, to stop the abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation by providing the protection the adult requires with the least restriction to the client’s independence. In the Staunton, Augusta, or Waynesboro area,
if you suspect abuse, neglect or exploitation of an elderly or incapacitated adult, please call Shenandoah Valley Social Services, APS Intake 540-942-6648, email svss-apsintake@dss.virginia.gov, or call the 24 hour Virginia APS hotline at (888) 832-3858.
Allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation in other areas of Virginia can be made by contacting the 24 hour APS Hotline at (888) 832-3858 or contacting the local Department of Social Services in the locality where the adult is living.
