Enhancing victim’s safety, gathering evidence, preserving testimony, and offender accountability will all be discussed.
Shannon Freeman, Director of Programs and Community Outreach with the Office of the Attorney General will present on what TRIADS are and how to start them in your locality.
Go Team! - Elder Financial Exploitation Investigations - One Goal, One Team!
Special Agent Adam Galton, Accountant with the VA State Police will present how a criminal investigator receives a vulnerable person financial exploitation complaint, who then initiates an investigation, utilizes local, state, and federal resources, seeks and gathers evidence, and prepares a solid presentation for the Commonwealth Attorney. In addition this presentation will highlight the need for the community to work as an investigative team and the importance of a consistent and timely educational program for this at risk population".
Assessing Decision-Making Capacity in Seniors
Gary H. Oberlender, MD, FACP President Senior Evaluations, LLC will discuss how impaired capacity to make rational decisions about important life events is often compromised in older adults. This 90 minute interactive presentation will discuss common causes of impaired decision-making in seniors, review the elements of a properly performed medical assessment of decision-making capacity, and present case studies to highlight the important facets of the assessment process.
